History of North Hills
After the Second World War, real estate developers working on the subdivision and development of the area known as Mission acres gave the place a new name, Sepulveda. This was in honor of one of the founding families of the city of Los Angeles. Residents living on the Western side of the San Diego Freeway lobbied and successfully voted for secession from Sepulveda in 1992 to create the new North Hill community.
Due to factors that include the secession, the real estate value of the Eastern side that was still known as Sepulveda plummeted and eventually in 2008 the community managers lobbied for the change of name to North Hills. Hence, North Hills West and North Hills East communities were created by the City of Los Angeles. North Hills West lies between Bull Creek, Balboa Boulevard, the San Diego Freeway, Roscoe Boulevard, and Devonshire Downs. The community’s logo is a “tree in the city” with the slogan “Fostering community”. North Hills East lies between the San Diego Freeway and Sepulveda Boulevard. Its neighborhood council is made up of a bilingual set of neighbors and was created in 2012.
