What comes to mind when you hear the name Hollywood? Hollywood happens to be a district in the state of California but ironically, it is not just a District, it is also a state of mind or a dream. Many young people are heard saying they are going to Hollywood or they want to go to Hollywood when they grow up to mean they want to be famous by getting into the film and music industry. Sometimes one will be heard saying they are going to Hollywood even when they are going to some other city or district in California not Hollywood. This happens because Hollywood is the hub of entertainment not only in California but in the entire United States of America.
Hollywood is a district in Los Angeles (L.A) city of the state of California in the United States of America with an approximated population of 123, 435 people according to the census of 2000. There are amazing things that one can learn about Hollywood.
1. History of Hollywood, California
The history of Hollywood dates back to 1853 though the name Hollywood came into existence in 1886 from a couple who were on honeymoon there. Hollywood started out as an agricultural community with flourishing crops. By 1900, Hollywood already had a a post office, a newspaper, a hotel, and two markets with a population of 500 people. In 1903, the Hollywood community was changed into a municipality and because of a continued struggle to get a constant supply of water, the Hollywood town dwellers voted in their town to be incorporated in the Los Angeles City in 1910 and they succeeded. The famous Hollywood sign was put up in 1923 to advertise new houses being built around the place. It was initially called Hollywoodland. The last four letters were omitted in 1949 when the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce offered to repair the sign. Later on production companies from New York and New Jersey started moving into Hollywood because of the favourable weather and that is where the motion picture industry all began. It has since grown to become what it is today.

Hollywood does not only boast of the music and movie industry, it also sets trends in the world of fashion where shoppers can acquire unique and designer wares at a reasonable bargain. There are also museums and other art galleries where culture is showcased.

So how can you know that you are in Hollywood? There are several landmarks that can only be found in Hollywood and not any other place. These are some of the things that make you know that indeed you are in Hollywood. There is a hotel called Hollywood Hotel where only the famous people live superstars and business tycoons would meet and dine. The first nightclub in Hollywood was called Montmarte Café was the first nightclub of Hollywood. Musso and Frank Grill is a restaurant in Hollywood that prides itself as one of the oldest restaurants in town that was and is still preferred by many people.
5. Transportation
It is quite expensive to take a taxi in Hollywood those who don’t have personal cars prefer to take public transport instead. One such public transport is the metro bus. In order to board the bus, you need to buy a day pass that costs about 3 dollars. The metro buses are reputed to be safe, convenient and clean. There are other modes of public transport like the Red Line Rail Service, the Shuttle Buses, the MTA Buses, the DASH Buses, Starline Buses, and Charter Coaches. You only need to know which one is convenient and pocket friendly.
